I noticed that so much when we'd have our meetings every week. Everyone would have to come with ideas and the more controversial it was the more likely that was the idea they were told to go with. it's pretty sad and that's exactly why no REAL information is put out there. and then the moment someone says pure facts about Islam, people complain. Sorry it's not jerry springer material! There was this one guy who constantly told me to write about pop culture "paris hilton, music, etc" I'm like subhanallah, they leave that which is beneficial and then stick to the trash that's out there like it's religion? HK, you're so right. It's not even a fine line yet they make it out to be. it's either obvious with evangelism or just isnt evangelism. And to Mr. Dreher who says that it doesnt happen and shouldnt happen... what about people like "Pat Robertson?" He claims to give you "news." I don't see christians merely as upset about him as they are with hiring a muslim to write about islam (without evangelizing) tell me.. is this not a double standard? different mediums of information.. same double standard. Maybe, to them, it's a fine line. But obviously if you're going to bring in some kind of information your readers are unfamiliar with (if one were to assume little knowledge of Islam of a largely non-Muslim population, in this case), it has to be explained in that context! This is how I have seen Islam being used in your articles: for the purpose of correcting the distorted image that others are trying to paint it as. And why not when what started it all was someone's hateful piece in the same paper trashing Islam? It warms my heart that a journalist of his caliber has to denounce the kind writing you have done and yet say nothing of the hate others wish to spread. Kudos.
