Just the other day , i was on the bus reading my book .When I looked up at the front row seats, I saw a couple of high school girls with uniforms holding a book on sex ….but get this it wasn’t your typical trashy novels but a guide book ”100 ways and tips on sex” holding it up for the world to see and laughing about as if they had a magazine in their hands. People are way too comfortable with their sexuality these days. Show some decency will you.

Very true. This also shows the great need for Muslim psychologists and social workers in our community that addresses these issues so that Muslim families will not have to resort to these other “experts”. In reality, it should not be the Imam’s duty to fill the vacuum because his duty is to teach the community and to keep them inspired. Only because there is no nobody else do we see the majority of the Imam’s schedule in marriage counseling, domestic abuse, psychological support and such.

I completely get where you’re coming from Arif. Allah ‘az wa jal talks about intimacy in the Quran but he does so in a manner that is of course in the best manner and not crude. If one does so in the proper manner and also goes over halal and haram with their children regarding it, then alhamdulillah.

But yeah this lady was insane and really out of line.

I was told that it’s the duty of Muslim parents to talk to children about these issues, especially in our current society. I believe that the mother was right to ask, but she was asking the wrong type of people and was receiving horrible answers. Parents should rather sit down with their kids once they’re old enough and explain it in a certain manner.

WHOA man. I’m not a diehard Oprah fan but when I get the time to watch (once in a blue moon), its usually good.

But this crosses the lines. Has she gone mad?!?! And what kind of mother is this?! What an incompetent fool, I’m sorry to say. Wallaahi people don’t know how to raise their children anymore. It isn’t “teach them while their young and drill it into them”, now the motto is “let them make their own mistakes, they’ll learn soon enough.”

And I completely agree with MR on this, its EVERYWHERE. My 10 year old sister knows everything (as do my brothers who are older than she) because of tv shows. But alhamdulillaah they have enough hayaa and sense not to go around talking about it and my parents CERTAINLY aren’t giving them TIPS, A3OODHU BILLAAH!!! I’m seriously thinking about writing Oprah a letter. I never do that stuff but that’s above and beyond.

and btw, i’m currently in my senior year of high school, so i know how bad it is, especially when you see other Muslims dating, doing and dealing drugs, going to parties, dances, etc.

If your parents are not a happy, positive, and islamic influence in your life, then you are lost to the feasting grounds of Shaytaan called:
“highschool”.

I think the most important thing is for parents to be able to communicate to their children Islamic ideas, even about these silent issues, because if the parents won’t teach their kids, then the kids will learn from their friends, and from the television, that are constantly inputting information into their minds.

In this day and age you have to be able to explain WHY homosexuality is wrong, WHY non-committed relationships at school are disastrous, WHY dating is haram, WHY talking to the opposite sex alone is haram, etc.etc.

If you ask many Muslim teenagers, they wouldn’t be able to give you an answer to why for example dating is haram, and if they don’t have an answer, they’ll start dating people themselves.

yes! look at the preview of the show i posted above, that’s the 10 year old girl in green. I was horrified. Even Oprah’s friend Gale was saying she doesnt even talk to her grown women friends about that stuff and couldnt imagine talking to her kids about it.
